About Nic Salts

Nic salts (also called nicotine salts, salt nicotine or simply salts) are a relatively new type of e-liquid that has taken the vaping world by storm. Providing rapid nicotine delivery (the nicotine is absorbed by the body in around 6 seconds), nic salts have become a favourite among former smokers and are great for satisfying cravings. Nic salts are also loved for their smooth throat hit and high PG ratio which allows them to perform well at low temperatures in pod kits and low wattage vape kits.

Nicotine salts vs. freebase nicotine

The original e-liquids used a type of nicotine called freebase nicotine which was invented by cigarette manufacturers in the 1960s. This nicotine was extracted from the tobacco plant and treated with ammonia to change the chemical structure, making it more easily absorbed by the body than nicotine in its original form.

Freebase nicotine reigned supreme in vape juice and tobacco cigarettes for decades, until some crafty e-liquid manufacturers created a new type of e-juice: nic salt. Instead of treating the tobacco plant’s naturally occurring nicotine with ammonia, they instead added benzoic acid or citric acid to neutralise the substance. This meant that it could be absorbed more rapidly and effectively into the body, which is why nicotine salts famously cause a nicotine rush faster than freebase nicotine.

FAQs

What device should I use with nicotine salts?

For vaping nic salts, we recommend using a pod kit such as the NVee Vape Pod. This portable and easy-to-use pod kit can get great performance out of your nic salts. Can't choose which nic salt to use? This pod vape allows you to fill two pods with different e-liquids and effortlessly switch them whenever you fancy it. This way, you'll never get bored!

What vaping style is best for nic salts?

Nic salt e-liquids are perfect for MTL (mouth-to-lung) vaping. Similar to how you'd smoke a traditional cigarette, MTL vaping involves drawing the vapour into your mouth before inhaling it into your lungs.

Are 3mg nicotine salts suitable for former smokers?

3mg salt nicotine e-liquids can be suitable for people quitting smoking, but it depends on your prior smoking habits. If you regularly smoked a pack a day or more, we'd recommend starting on a higher strength such as 12mg or 18mg. After this, you can reduce your nicotine intake gradually to a 3mg strength. However, if you are only a light smoker, 3mg nicotine might be enough to help you quit cigarettes. It depends on each individual, so we recommend experimenting with nicotine levels until you find what's right for you.

Are nicotine salts safe to vape?

Yes - nicotine salts are very safe. They contain high-quality, food-grade flavourings and ingredients. The acids used to create nic salts are also very safe; benzoic acid is found naturally in foods such as cinnamon and is often used in carbonated drinks, while citric acid occurs naturally in fruits such as oranges and lemons.

How much nicotine can e-liquids contain?

Here at Jucce E-Liquids, our strongest nic salts contain 18mg nicotine, which is considered a high strength. The Tobacco Products Directive (TPD) regulations in the UK and EU prevent the sale of e-liquids at strengths higher than 20mg. This would be too much nicotine for most vapers anyway.

3mg nicotine e-liquids are considered very low in nicotine although they still offer a small nicotine hit. If you prefer to go completely nicotine free, try some of our 0mg nicotine shortfills today.

Do nic salts have a long shelf life?

Nic salts are more shelf stable than other kinds of e-liquids. This means that they tend to last longer than other vape liquids when stored in ideal conditions (sealed and in a cool, dark place).

Are nic salts stronger than freebase nicotine?

Nicotine salts are often considered stronger because the nicotine levels in vapers' bloodstreams are higher for a longer period of time. However, this doesn't mean that the nicotine is more addictive than in freebase e-liquids or traditional cigarettes.

Can nic salts help me save money?

Nic salts are often considered a cost-effective method of vaping. The rapid absorption of nicotine means that vapers don't vape as frequently to get their nicotine fix, slowing the rate of vape juice consumption and helping you save money.
